In the heart of a 1.5-hectare airial, Rivedieu is an 18th-century longère, a former priory surrounded by pine forests in an airial with centuries-old oaks. It lies at the heart of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, on the edge of the old railroad line that used to be the Chemin de Compostelle.

The airial is a natural clearing, an island of light and greenery planted with often hundred-year-old oaks, in the middle of the maritime pine forest, and is a typical Landes site in south-western France.

Inherited from the Gascon Middle Ages, the airial was the beating heart of rural Landes communities. Traditional houses (oustaus) were built around this common area.

Today, the airial is recognized as a veritable biodiversity haven within the Landes forest massif. Its centuries-old oaks, open lawns and forest edges are home to a wealth of wildlife, including goshawks, pollinating insects and typical Gascony moorland flora.
