Here, time slows down. You're in the middle of nature, far from the noise, in the heart of a preserved, eco-responsible setting, just 1 hour from the Atlantic Ocean and a few kilometers from Bazas and the Graves and Sauterne vineyards.

In the heart of a 1.5-hectare airial, Rivedieu is an 18th-century longère, a former priory surrounded by pine forests in an airial with centuries-old oaks. It lies at the heart of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, on the edge of the old railroad line that used to be the Chemin de Compostelle.

The airial is a natural clearing, an island of light and greenery planted with often hundred-year-old oaks, in the middle of the maritime pine forest, and is a typical Landes site in south-western France.

Inherited from the Gascon Middle Ages, the airial was the beating heart of rural Landes communities. Traditional houses (oustaus) were built around this common area.

Today, the airial is recognized as a veritable biodiversity haven within the Landes forest massif. Its centuries-old oaks, open lawns and forest edges are home to a wealth of wildlife, including goshawks, pollinating insects and typical Gascony moorland flora. An ideal place for nature lovers andeco-tourists in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

Captieux and the surrounding area have been inhabited since the Middle Ages. A major town during this period, Captieux was already an important stage on the Vézelay Way, one of the historic routes leading to Santiago de Compostela. L'Airial de Rivedieu is part of this historical continuity: the Jacobean route passes right by the estate, making it a meeting point between medieval history and Gascon rural life.

Nearly 89% of Captieux's territory is covered by forests and semi-natural environments. Our longère is equidistant from many of the region's treasures: Arcachon and the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, the lakes of the Landes region, the vineyards of Graves, Sauternes and Sainte Croix du Mont. The towns of Bazas, with its cathedral and nature conservatory at Lac de la Prade. Mont de Marsan, with its féria and festive squares.
