Description
We are Camille and Daniel, fully committed to the creation of our organic market garden farm since 2021!
We come from the Drôme, and have lived in Brittany, the Camargue, etc. Committed to social and environmental protection, we've had a wide variety of professional experiences (theater, sailing, outdoor sports, healthcare, social work, yoga...). When we first met, it was the desire to travel, to cast off and sail the seas that drove us. But in 2018, we've noticed a growing dissonance between our personal convictions and our daily lives. With the socio-economic and ecological situation becoming increasingly unstable, we feel the need to act concretely, on our own scale, to restore meaning and ethics to our actions and commitments.
The vagaries of life, our reflections and our gut instinct led us to want to put down roots on solid ground and find a place where we could take action. After several years of searching, in 2020, just before the Covid, we fell under the spell of Aveyron, its landscapes, its geographical context, its people, its climate, its calm... Very quickly, we chose this typical farmhouse, over 200 years old, which was patiently waiting for buyers. We could envisage several projects: building our own ecological habitat, creating a gîte, designing an eco-environment, giving yoga classes, developing agroecology, growing good vegetables, planting and maintaining fruit trees, etc.
We felt we were on the right track, and it was with great energy and enthusiasm that we fully invested ourselves in the creation of Les Jardins du Batut. We trained by building and practicing, and before long we were market gardeners, organic of course. It's not always an easy path, as the body also needs to readapt, the days are long, the 35-hour week, vacations and even weekends have become old memories... We have been supported by wwoofeur.ses, trainees, craftsmen, the local council and our families in building our project. Today, we're happy to say that we've made a lot of progress and are living the life of a market gardener, involved in the local community through direct sales at the farm, at the local market, at the biocoop and to restaurants. Our soil has improved thanks to the techniques we use, biodiversity is encouraged, and our produce is of high quality and gives us great satisfaction.
Hosting a gîte with Accueil Paysan was an obvious choice, as avoiding the big platforms and contributing to ethical tourism makes perfect sense. It's a complement to our business, but also an opportunity to open up and meet people... when our availability allows.
It's with great pleasure that we welcome you to our farm, which is also a place to live.
Les Jardins du Batut is constantly evolving, and you can contribute to its development and future projects: orchards, fruit hedges, a biodiversity pond, a practice area...
See you soon!
