Since 2003, I've been transforming this rocky land in the spirit of permaculture. I welcome you here for a moment of serenity away from the turbulence of life, whether to rest, train or discover my production of vegetables, fruit and flowers to eat.

Our eco-responsible and farming commitments

Herbarius is based on the daily application of permaculture principles in a coherent approach that respects the soil, living organisms and natural cycles. It's not just a garden to visit, but a recreated ecosystem, designed to last, to pass on and demonstrate that a different relationship with the earth, one that is sober and responsible, is possible.

All rainwater from the roofs is recuperated and used for the nursery's needs, limiting the consumption of drinking water. Soil improvers are produced on site through composting, enabling the soil to be nourished without chemical inputs.

A wide variety of vegetables are grown in the gardens, fruit is harvested in the conservatory orchard and chickens provide the eggs. The rest of the food (sugar - oil - milk...) is bought from the organic cooperative 4 km away, which favors short circuits.

Herbarius the medieval garden

Herbarius is first and foremost my home, where I practice permaculture in this dream location facing the salty winds of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc. Here, the vegetable garden is much more than a production space. In addition to providing healthy food, it provides physical activity and fosters an understanding of nature.

Herbarius is a place for transmission and sharing, through the accompaniment of trainees who appropriate nature-friendly agricultural practices, and through workshops and training courses offered to amateurs and experts alike. In practical terms, it's a simple way for everyone to appreciate the living world, and leave with a new-found know-how, inspiration and love of the land.

Visit the Herbarius website to find out more and plan your visit.

Territory description

Herbarius is located on the Penthièvre coast, between the town of Saint-Brieuc and Cap d'Erquy.

Penthièvre is rich in history, as evidenced by the 14th-century Fort La Latte and the 15th-century Château de Bienassis. Religious heritage is abundant, from the frescoes in Saint-Gobrien church to the art deco chapel of Maison Saint-Yves. In the countryside, megalithic sites can be found along the way, such as the Chêne-Hut covered alley or, further afield, the Guihallon menhir.

The coast alternates between cliffs, seaside resorts and wild coves. The GR34 "customs path" overlooks the sea. You'll need good legs and sturdy shoes: it has to be earned!
