Description

La petite auberge de Cheux, a bucolic stopover between sea and bocage!

At the gateway to the Bay of Biscay, on the edge of the lanes, the little Cheux inn welcomes you for a bucolic and convivial stopover!

Upstairs in the former stables of this 18th-century building, you'll sleep in a shared room, in our beautifully furnished tent, or with your own tent. In the spirit of a mountain refuge, you'll find convivial spaces and others for resting. Here, the discovery of the region is as much for the eyes as for the taste buds, and you'll be able to taste the delicious products of our typical and generous terroir.

A true base camp for hiking, horse-riding or cycling, and on the edge of 5 major itineraries, it's the ideal place to discover the hedged farmland paths, lush green valleys and sandy beaches where the spectacle of Europe's highest tides is revealed...

Our aim is to welcome you in a comfortable and friendly environment, in a bucolic and well-kept setting. Our aim is to offer you a chance to discover the region via the hedged paths rather than the tarmac roads. Local products take pride of place to delight our travelers!

We offer 3 accommodation options to suit your desires and your wallet.

Shared room:

This 15m2 room, designed for 4 people, is rented by the bed. But it can also be privatized and accommodate up to 5 people with an extra bed. It has a view over the courtyard of the farmhouse, 1 bunk bed and 2 single beds 200*90 that can be joined together to form a double bed. Ideal for a small family or group of friends. You'll find several shelves for storing your belongings, as well as chairs, a desk and also a washbasin inside the room.

The converted tent:

This yurt-style tent is equipped with beds to accommodate 4 people. It is rented by the bed, but can also be privatized. Located in an enclosed area in the shade of tall fir trees, it is in the immediate vicinity of the common areas. You'll find bedside tables for each bed, a beautiful garland to illuminate you and create a comforting cocoon, sockets and small shelves for your private belongings. There's also an adjoining garden furniture area.

A beautiful tent in an unspoilt environment that will delight young and old alike.

You can also bring your own tent! You'll have access to the same communal areas, and the choice of where to pitch it: in the enclosed area close to the hostel, or in a more secluded area close to the animals.

Once you're here, I'm often on the farm to give you information during your stay. I'm keen to help you discover the treasures of this area, and share my tips with you. I'm familiar with the paths I take myself on foot, on horseback and by bike, as well as the little restaurants, markets, farms and nice places to have a drink!

To book, you'll need to contact me, as the platform doesn't allow reservations in bed. Privatization is also possible for up to 15 people (9 beds: 5 in a room, 4 in a converted tent, the rest in tents brought by you).

I look forward to welcoming you to this historic site in the heart of nature!

Having finished my studies and after 1 year of walking across France where I was welcomed, I decided to welcome back and share my love for this little piece of country. I've been coming to the area since I was a kid, staying with my grandmother, and I fell in …

Our eco-responsible and farming commitments

We're trying to revive a place that closed in 2005. Numerous projects are underway or under consideration:

  • Use local energy (wood) rather than electricity or other forms of energy, project to install solar panels on a farm building.
  • Preserve water resources (installation of water recovery systems, development of the well, repair of leaks in buildings, etc.).
  • Encourage biodiversity (planting hedges and fruit trees, creating dry hedges, etc.).
  • Avoid the use of petroleum wherever possible: arrive by public transport, travel by bicycle or on horseback strongly encouraged (fetch people by bus, low-carbon fares, bicycle rentals, etc.), eco-pasturing practices for space management wherever possible.
  • Highlight local producers who pay particular attention to environmentally-friendly practices, and share farming practices with guests.
  • Renovate housing using eco-consruction techniques, making the most of existing buildings rather than creating new ones.
  • Limiting waste by favoring Bulk and large volumes, and facilitating sorting.
  • Gradual restoration of farming and food production at the Cheux farm, whose products will be offered at the inn.

  • Measurement of electricity consumption per night over the year
  • Preservation of local traditional habitat
  • Open-air laundry drying, provision of clotheslines

Discover our welcome place and our territory

My structure

Located in the commune of Saint Michel des Loups (a commune associated with Jullouville), Cheux Farm dates back to the 18th century. It has a typical "U" shape, open to the west, with 120 m of courtyard frontage, set in 6.5 ha of meadows. Comprising three buildings - the Living Wing, the Barn and the Stables - the farmhouse is built of blonde stone, slate and brick. We are committed to restoring this unique regional heritage, which has a great value in the hearts and memories of the local people.

Currently run as a family business, our aim is to breathe new life into this place steeped in history, which has seen a wide variety of activities from farming to hospitality. Its strategic position in relation to hiking trails and its well-preserved environment made us want to share it with hikers, horseback riders and cyclists, to help them discover this land we've been coming to since we were kids, and have fallen in love with.

Territory description

Here we are between sea and bocage, in a land where cows graze right up to the beach.

This variety of landscapes, combined with the farm's strategic position at the crossroads of the "chemins creux", offers superb hiking opportunities between land and sea. One day you can walk to the Mont, another to the beach at Carolles and take a swim, another you can walk to visit the Lucerne abbey, and yet another you can walk to the sea.
