Description

A cozy little cottage in a farmhouse outbuilding, close to the animals and just 5 minutes from Cordes-sur-Ciel

While renovating the very old farmhouse where we live, we came up with the idea of renovating an outbuilding to run a farmstay. We’re in a small, quiet village. We’re surrounded by poultry—mostly hens raised for their eggs, which we sell, but also three roosters that compete in crowing contests. We don’t have the noises of the city—just those of the countryside. And in both spring and summer, it’s very lively and full of birdsong. In addition, we have seven goats that roam the grounds around the cottage.

The cottage is rustic, fairly small, and suitable for no more than two adults and two children. It’s best if guests aren’t too tall or too large.

As someone deeply involved in the development of small-scale farming through the Adear du Tarn, offering farm stays has always been a dream of mine. The opportunity to renovate an outbuilding into a guesthouse made it possible to finally get started!

The farm’s main agricultural product is eggs, with nearly …

Our eco-responsible and farming commitments

We try to be consistent in our eco-friendly practices, but it’s not always easy. We recycle everything we can, use plastic sparingly, and use well water as much as possible for outdoor areas and the animals—it’s better suited for them than treated “drinking” water. All plant waste, of course, goes either to the chickens or to the compost.

Recycling bins are available for visitors. We have dry toilets.

All our crops are grown without chemical treatments; our seeds are locally sourced and heirloom varieties, and we follow the lunar calendar.

  • Eco-responsible paint and coatings
  • Insulation with natural or recycled materials
  • Preservation of local traditional habitat

My structure

My son Thomas and I have been living here for a year and a half now; we live in a farmhouse built in 1828, right in the heart of the village. Several generations have lived here, practicing traditional mixed farming and livestock raising, where food self-sufficiency was a key priority (grapes, grains, potatoes, pigs, poultry, rabbits...). The previous owner also embraced this way of life, which we’re trying to adopt. He carried out an incredible agroecology and agroforestry project on the twenty or so hectares he owned. All of these initiatives are protected by an ORE (Environmental Real Obligation). We’ve inherited a multifaceted farm that places a strong emphasis on biodiversity. It is our duty to help you discover it and to pass it on to future generations.

Territory description

We are located in the northwestern part of the Tarn, just 5 minutes from a medieval gem: the town of Cordes-sur-Ciel. The farm is situated in the village of Virac on the Causse Cordais.

We are at the heart of a region with a rich cultural heritage, surrounded by numerous fortified towns (Penne, Bruniquel, Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Puycelsi, and Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val).

The natural heritage is also remarkable, featuring the Grésigne National Forest. The farm’s lands, protected by an ORE (Environmental Real Obligation), are a haven of biodiversity just waiting to be discovered.
