WORKING TOGETHER WITH OUR ANIMALS AND THE ENVIRONMENT.

On the shores of Lac de Grand lieu, come and discover our 50-cow organic dairy farm, and taste our raw milk and cheeses.

Our herd is made up of Belles Normande and crossbred cows.

100% pasture, we produce all the feed for our animals.

Calves are raised with their mothers or with foster mothers.

On the shores of Lac de Grand Lieu in winter, in the marshes in summer, 50% of our land is subject to flooding. France's 2nd largest bird sanctuary after the Camargue, the lake is home to over 270 species of birds. Our Paysan de Nature charter also commits us to welcoming and preserving biodiversity.

Territory description

Located on the edge of the marshes of Lac de Grand Lieu, our dairy farm is organically farmed. Surrounded by marshes on one side and meadows on the other, 1 km from the center of the village of St Lumine, with a magnificent view of the marshes in summer and the lake in winter.

Welcome to our farm.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing our profession, our know-how and our passion with you. There are 3 of us working on the farm: Gwenaëlle, Pascal and Dorine (farm employee).

We try to ensure that our animals are as comfortable as possible on our farm, and for as long as possible. Our farm tries to promote animal welfare, grazing, organic farming and well-being at work. Our farm aims to be welcoming and open to all.

We want everyone to feel at home on our farm, whether they're just passing through or not. Respect for people, animals and nature is at the heart of our work. Our farm is a place for socializing, sharing, helping and meeting.

That's why working with the animals (milking, fetching them from the pasture, etc.) is inseparable from our work in the cheese dairy, so that we can understand what's at stake on our farm. How can we talk about cheese hygiene if we don't take milking parlour hygiene into account? How can we talk about cheese color if we don't know our pastures and hay?

Half our surface area is in the marshes of Lac de Grand Lieu. As a result, our farm is entirely focused on this nature reserve. We live with the seasons, adapting the grazing of our animals to the rise and fall of the lake's waters.

Working in this magnificent setting naturally led us to sign up to the "paysan de nature" charter, in order to welcome a high level of biodiversity to our farm, and to think together about how to do this: widening the hedges, for example.

We're also keen to share our work with others, and regularly welcome trainees who are retraining or coming from agricultural training schemes. But it's also with the general public that we want to talk about this beautiful profession of farming, and the fact that a different kind of agriculture is possible. We want our farm to be a place where everyone feels welcome and at ease. That's why we hold regular events at our weekly market for organic and farm produce, and organize special events such as concerts and open houses.

Our values are the same as those of a welcoming farmer: fertile land for tomorrow, a different kind of agriculture is possible. Cows on pasture pollute much less than cows in buildings, and we need livestock farming to maintain our landscapes, good milk makes good cheese, and quality food. Buying local and organic doesn't have to be more expensive if you go all the way to the producer. Everyone has a role to play in preserving nature, each at his or her own level, because without nature we'd no longer exist. What does it mean to be a farmer today? It means earning a living, taking vacations, being a woman or a man, coming from a farming background or not, as is our case.

We wanted to be a farm open to the public, so that people could get closer to our farms, understand how they work, discover that a different kind of agriculture is possible, and where the produce on their plates comes from. We also want to ensure that visiting a farm is not a luxury for families, and that people from all walks of life are able to mix and mingle.

That's why anyone can come and watch the milking for free every weekday evening, or at weekends by prior arrangement.

Every Wednesday evening there's an organic farmers' market on our farm. It's an opportunity for families to chat with us (our employee does the milking, I sell the cheese, and Pascal welcomes and chats with customers). Families can watch the milking, see the cows... and do their shopping for the week. Every quarter, an aperitif is organized to bring people together and highlight one of the local producers.

During the school vacations, we organize paid visits for families, with tastings.

We welcome students from local secondary schools.

We also open the farm every year for an Irish evening.

Every 2 years we organize an organic milk festival.

Sometimes we welcome a theater company.
