Description

Charming gîte in an old building, furnished with care and healthy materials. Ideal for couples or families.

Sober, warm and comfortable accommodation for an independent walking-farniente holiday.

The entrance is via the kitchen, an attractive wooden extension added to the building to save space. This is also where you'll find the bathroom, with its XL shower.

On the first floor of the old building, you'll find the living area, which is always nice and cool in summer. The sofa-bed can be folded out for extra guests, as can a single bed that doubles as a bench, and hidden beneath it, a pull-out bed (for a bonus 4 places). In "la grange", the more the merrier ;-)

For winter or mid-season, there's the powerful turbo wood-burning stove.

Upstairs are the "official" bedrooms: 2x2 bunk beds in one and a double bed in the other (with a cot).

The last part of the farmhouse to have been renovated (in the mid-2000s), it has recently reverted to the name "la grange" (the barn) that we used to call it when I was a kid and would venture out onto its worm-eaten floor to play with my friends. Those were the days, but it's much more comfortable now!

Mosquito net available.

It's a few dozen meters' walk from the parking lot to bring your things in, but there's a wheelbarrow available, and once you're settled in, what a pleasure to be away from any vehicles! Arrival times: 5pm to 6:30pm. Exceptions possible in case of problems, of course!

2 evenings a week, from July 20 to around August 20 (to be confirmed), you'll be served organic-vegetable food by Chez Jeannette.

Breakfast available on request the day before.

The gîte is rented by the week in summer. In low season, it can also be rented by the night, with a minimum of 3 days in winter (gîte to be heated in advance).

Our eco-responsible and farming commitments

For over 50 years, the La Baraque farm has been committed to an ecological approach (and has been a member of the Nature & Progrès network from the outset), rebuilding and rehabilitating its land to promote biodiversity. This includes first and foremost the soils, which were in a sorry state (virtually uncultivated) when the estate was taken over by pine trees. We had to bring back deciduous trees and recreate humus. This has now been achieved, and the high level of organic matter in our agricultural soils enables us to produce a large number of good vegetables, while we naturally continue to cultivate our land in a way that is as respectful of living organisms as possible.

How to get here?

Warning: there are two "chemin de la baraque". The one not to be taken (not passable all the way) starts in a neighboring commune and is a dirt track. The GPS sometimes sends you on it, so don't listen to them.

The "chemin de la baraque", which is the right one, starts from the D51 between Aujac and Bedousses bas. It's a single-lane tarmac road that's 3km long, but seems to be twice as long when you're not used to it ;-) The tarmac becomes dirt for the last 50-100m only.

The nearest train station is Génolhac, half an hour away. If you don't have your own means of transport, I can pick you up by car for a fee.
