Description

The Gîte de Loza is located on the Les Vignes de Loza wine estate in Burgundy's Yonne region.

The gîte has a terrace and enclosed garden, providing a pleasant outdoor space for relaxing, dining al fresco and spending time with your four-legged friends. The peaceful village setting invites you to relax and recharge your batteries. The gîte is located on a working wine estate, giving visitors the chance to discover how wine is made, including a visit to the barrel cellar beneath the gîte.

In the immediate vicinity of the Canal du Nivernais, the gîte is a 30-minute bike ride from Auxerre along the towpath, an itinerary appreciated by cyclists and walkers alike for its flat, safe and landscaped nature along the water.

Vineyards and cherry orchards are less than 2 kilometers away, accessible on walks through the surrounding countryside, allowing immersion in the region's typical landscapes.

The Gîte de Loza is centrally located for exploring the Yonne's major tourist attractions:

- Villa Escoliva, a major Gallo-Roman relic,

- the Caves de Bailly and their impressive underground quarries,

- the vineyards of Chablis, Saint-Bris, Coulanges-la-Vineuse and Irancy,

- the Caves of Arcy-sur-Cure, remarkable for their prehistoric concretions and paintings,

- the Musée Colette at Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye,

- Saint-Étienne d'Auxerre Cathedral and Saint-Germain Abbey.

The region also offers many fine restaurants, accessible in neighboring villages and Auxerre, featuring Burgundian gastronomy and local wines.

In autumn and winter, the gîte lends itself particularly well to off-season stays. The presence of a fireplace creates a warm atmosphere, ideal after a day of sightseeing or walking, for a relaxing stay.

Private spaces

It's a beautiful Burgundy stone house (longère) with a first floor (accessed by a stone staircase) and an upper floor.

On the ground floor there's a large room with a fitted kitchen, a dining table and a living room with a fireplace. The front door leads out onto the terrace, with views over the garden. There is a table and four chairs on the terrace.

Upstairs there's a large room with two bedrooms, separated not by a partition but only by a folding screen. The bathroom was renovated in 2023 and is located between the two bedrooms. The beds can be arranged as double or single beds.

There is a fireplace in the living room, and I provide wood.

The windows and doors were replaced in 2025. The house is well insulated: it's cool in summer and warm in winter.

No wifi or TV channels, but good 4G access and plenty of DVDs. A Bluetooth speaker is available.

My structure

The gîte is located in a small hamlet with fewer than 100 inhabitants. What makes the hamlet so special is that it lies alongside the Canal du Nivernais. The canal was used to transport timber from the Morvan to Paris, as well as wine from the Yonne. My house, like most in the village, was probably a storage facility for wine barrels before they were loaded onto the barges. It's a longère, with a part where I live, and a part that I rent out. It's set in an enclosed garden. I've renovated the barn to make it my winery, and built a wooden shed for my farm equipment. My vineyards are a few kilometers away: in the communes of Irancy, Vincelottes and Jussy.

Territory description

30 m from the Canal du Nivernais, between 3 Burgundy vineyards: Saint-Bris, Irancy and Coulanges-la-Vineuse. From the gîte, stroll through vineyards and cherry orchards.

Just a short bike ride away: the archeological site of Escolives-Sainte-Camille, the Pierre Merlier museum and the Hosotte gallery at La Chapelle-de-Bailly.

Cellar visits: several renowned organic wineries in Irancy, Saint Bris and Coulanges la Vineuse.

To keep cool in hot weather: the grotte d'Arcy (cave painting), the winegrowers' cellars in Saint-Bris (this village is a real Gruyère!), and the cellars of Bailly-la-Pierre.

A little further afield: Vézelay and its basilica, Saint Sauveur and its Colette museum, Auxerre and its cathedral.

Excellent restaurants within a 10-minute drive: J'MCA in Coulanges-la-Vineuse, Le Soufflot in Irancy, Aux Détours in Chitry, Chez Emmeline in Champs sur Yonne.
